Most of us have made the mistake of purchasing hair extensions of poor quality. You think you are buying one thing just to find out later that you have purchased something completely different. Been there, done that! You’re left mad, frustrated and with a worthless withdrawal from your bank account. To avoid taking the journey down this much traveled road, let me tell you a little story about how I learn the essential qualities of high-quality virgin hair.
To remain respectful, I will avoid using names in this story.
A while back I was invited to a last-minute surprise party for one of my favorite Aunts. So, you know I could not miss that! She had just got a major promotion at her firm, and I wanted to celebrate her accomplishment.
Essential Qualities of High-Quality Virgin Hair
However, my hair was an absolute mess. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to order any bundles from one of my all-time “go to” online hair vendors. So, it was either show up looking like a hot mess, go to my local beauty supply store, or find a virgin hair dealer nearby to purchase the hair extensions for the look I was going for. Of course, I chose the latter.
I have called my hair stylist and booked my appointment. Thank goodness she was able to squeeze. Now all I must do is get the hair! Since I did not want to drive an hour across town, so I narrowed down the top three vendors within a 20-mile radius from my house. I decided to go with the vendor I often drive by. I thought to myself, “you always pass by their location, why not check them out. You need hair anyways and what’s the worst that can happen?”

I go inside and I was immediately greeted by a young woman that was very friendly and seemed to be very knowledgeable of their products. I asked her to show me their Brazilian Deep Curly hair. The hair looked gorgeous and beautiful in the pack. However, after it was installed, it was a matted up disarrayed mess!!! I was going for the big curly “Kelly Rowland Look”, so I was expected there to be some tangles ant knots but nothing like this. I was able to get about 3 days wear before I had to take it out. Now I’m pissed because I spent money on the hair and money on the stylist. So, while this may have been an expensive lesson for me, it does not have to be the same for you.
When it comes to purchasing hair extensions there are a few essential qualities of high-quality virgin hair you should be familiar with.
Essential Qualities of High-Quality Virgin Hair
For starters, not all hair strands are created equal. You must remember that if you are buying human hair that not all humans take care of their hair in the same fashion. When you are interested in shopping with a vendor inquire about their practices and what they do to harvest the hair. Some vendors process their hair with chemicals to style and color the hair. The chemicals used during these treatments can ultimately impact the quality of the hair and its ability to be styled and colored in the future.
Next, get a sense of what type of hair you are buying. You want to know if the hair is raw or virgin. There is a difference, you know. Virgin hair typically undergoes a steamed processed to give it a texture such as body wave, deep wave, or loose wave. While Raw Hair has not been altered in any way.
