The Surprising Truth About Sealing Knots On A Hair Frontal

If you wear extensions and frontals then you know the importance of taking proper care of the knots on your lace front. But just in case you are new to the extensions world,  this article is especially for you. And luckily for you I’m going to explain how to correctly take care of your frontal unit and make sure you maintain its longevity for years to come.
For those of you who don’t know, the knots of a lace frontal are the hair strands implanted into the lace. When manufacturing a hairpiece, each hair strand is inserted into the lace base and then knotted so it can remain attached.
Go and get your frontal NOW… I’ll wait…. Now look very closely…. Can you see the little dots on the base?  Do you see them? Those are the knots!  Securing every strand of hair onto your lace.

To keep it real, overtime with frequent use and even abuse, the hair may become loosened from the lace base which causes the shedding.  Shedding can result in sparse areas and bald spots which will have you looking like a mangy dog with Alopecia.
Now, let’s get down to the nitty gritty: How to take proper care of your lace frontal
If you were wondering… Yes, there’s more to care and maintenance than just cleaning and conditioning your hair unit. Didn’t realized wearing a frontal required so much maintenance? Huh?! Just kidding, it’s really not that much work.
Hair extensions are an investment and it’s no point in having a clean, moisturized, and well-groomed hair piece if its constantly shedding when you brush or run your fingers through it.
Therefore, it is so important to use a Knot sealer to help the knots remain strong and attached to the lace. Make the most out of your hairpiece by taking proper care of it, and YEP, you’ve guessed it. That starts with knot sealing.
What is a Knot Sealer? And How do you use it? You ask…

Knot sealers are special formulas that seal and protect the delicate knots at the base of your hairpiece. It helps to keep shedding to a minimum and ensure a longer lasting unit.
Currently there are several brands of knot sealer on the market. Choosing a trusted and well-known brand if you can. Here are a few brands you might want to consider.
  • Walker Tape Top-Loc Knot Sealer
  • TDi Fast Trak Knot Sealer
  • Advent Hair’s knot sealer
However, many women find that using craft adhesive spray is the cheapest option with satisfying results. Do some research and figure out what would be your best option.
When you seal your knots on a regular basis, you will see less hair loss, and longer durability.
Now that we covered that, let’s talk about how to use the Knot Sealer
Don’t worry, it’s not rocket science! It is so simple a chimp can do it.  Just follow these simple and easy steps and you’ll be just fine.
1) Make sure your hair system is clean (shampooed and conditioned). Knot sealers work           best if you apply it to a nice clean base.
2) Let the hair completely dry.
3) Turn the hairpiece so the lace is facing upwards towards you.
4) Spray a layer of knot sealer evenly over the lace.  Don’t go H.A.M!!! When I say spray, I           mean a very light mist. see the video below for an example,

5) Make sure to have some distance when spraying your hairpiece to avoid inhaling the product or worst, getting it into your eyes. Always Put Safety First!
6) Wait 10-20 minutes for the layer to dry and repeat the process.  Only this time, give a little more attention to the areas you feel like you comb more often or where you usually apply your adhesive. Spray just a little more product on those areas. Careful not to use too much.
7) Let it dry for a few minutes so the knot sealer can do what it do!! I advise you NOT to use a blow dryer, letting it air dry is the best options.
All done! That wasn’t so hard. Now was it?!

Putting forth this small effort can go a very long way to help preserve your lace frontal. In almost no time you should notice the difference in the shedding. For extra preventive maintenance, you should re-seal the knots, especially the areas where shedding is more common, (like the front of the hair line) at least once or twice a month.
