There’s nothing like getting your package in the mail from Dynasty Goddess Hair Co with those beautiful blonde curly hair extensions. Or my personal favorite the silky Mink Indian Body Wave Hair Extensions. It just does something to my soul!

Ok, Ok, Ok. I’ll stop fantasizing now and get straight to the point. You’re not here to listen to my love of hair extensions. You’re here to get tips on how to take care of your hair in between styles or when you are giving your hair a much needed break.

Top 5 Ways to Grow Your Hair

Don’t worry I got you! No matter if you are rocking sew-ins, wigs or ponytails you need to make sure you are taking care of your hair underneath. Here are my top 5 ways to grow your hair when you are taking a break from hair extensions.

  1. Scalp Massages

One of the things I love most about scalp massages, is that it’s 100% free. You don’t need some fancy contraption all you need is your fingertips and some oil (optional). First, I take some of my favorite essential oils such as peppermint, clove or rosemary and mix it in with some olive oil or sweet almond oil. Next, I add a small amount of the oil to my fingertips. From there, I like to set a timer for 5-10 minutes and go to town on my scalp. Don’t use too much pressure and always go in circular motions. Before you know it, you’ll feel the stimulation in your hair follicles. That’s a great sign because the blood circulation will encourage your hair growth.

  • Steam Treatments

You ask, what are steam treatments? Exactly what you might have in mind.  A steam treatment is simply applying steam to your hair and scalp through the use of moist heat. This helps to open the hair cuticles, which allow deeper penetration of the products you use and gives youmaximum hydration and moisturization. Sign me up!

  • DIY Hair Mask

I love a good ol’ DIY hair mask. It gives you the opportunity to give your hair exactly what it needs in that moment. Versus rushing out to the store to buy yet another disappointing hair product, that just gets thrown to the back of the cabinet like all the others.

Here a few of my go to’s when my hair needs a little extra TLC that I can’t get from a bottle.

  • Bentonite clay powder, Water, Apple Cider Vinegar, and Castor oil.
  • Eggs and Mayo
  • Fresh Aloe Vera Gel
  • Honey and Avocado
  • Coconut oil, Lemon juice, Plain yogurt, and 1 egg.
  • Keep It Moisturized

Sound easy enough, right? However, depending on the type of hair you have it might be more a task than one might think. I have low porosity hair, so keeping my hair moisture can be a bit of challenge. Nothing we can’t handle though!

There are a few ground rules everyone must follow. Which include some of the following:

  • Making you are using moisturizing products on your hair
  • Using a proper sealant such as Shea butter, castor oil, or avocado oil.
  • Trimming your dead ends on a regular basis.
  • Avoiding heat.
  • Wrapping your hair with a satin bonnet or using a satin pillowcase.
  • Regularly deep conditioning your hair.

In conclusion, there is no exact science, or one size fits all method when it comes to growing your hair. It’s all about trial and error. You have to figure out what works best for you, and that might take some practice. Trust and believe me when I say, I am still learning myself. However, I have tested these out and I truly hope you will incorporate some of these tips into your hair care journey.
